Only in America: This contest is flameworthy!
OK, I'm not sure what ''flameworthy'' means, but I do know this is one of the better Brad About You contests in column history.
Next week, the stars roll into the Gaylord Entertainment Center for the first CMT Flameworthy Awards, country's first music video awards show, and we're going to put one of you right in the middle of it.
The winner of the ''Only in America, you can be the star!'' contest will go with a friend and me, in awesome seats, to the CMT Flameworthy Awards on June 12. Oh, but that's not all.
The winner gets to meet Brooks & Dunn, the ACM Entertainers of the Year! If you ask nicely, maybe you can try on Ronnie Dunn's duster.
Oh, but that's not all.
You know those amazing high-price goody bags that performers and presenters get at awards shows? The latest rage is the goody room, where the stars get to pick out nifty expensive things.
YOU, dear winner, can peruse through the Backstage Creations Talent Retreat and pick stuff from Nautica clothes, Wilsons leather goods, Bosley hair care products, Isabella Gianna jewelry and oh so much more. This alone could be worth thousands of dollars. Like, for real.
So you've got to pick up the Weekend section Friday to look for the entry form. Can't wait to go with you to the awards show.
And just remember your buddy Brad when you're going through the Backstage Creations goody room.
But will Billy's little leather pants still fit?
The rumors are flying about li'l Billy Gilman, who just turned 14, about why he has canceled all his concerts through the end of the year.
Seems Billy had a nasty bout with pneumonia, and he and his doctors wanted to rest his voice for a long while afterward. A possible second reason: Billy just met his new best buddy, Mr. Puberty.
''He's still a tenor, he's still up there, but he's down a full step,'' said Mike Kraski, bigwig at Sony Music Nashville, Billy's label.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing.
''His register was definitely an issue with some radio stations. The fact that his voice is going down will be a positive for radio,'' Mike said.
Billy's booking agent, Rod Essig, says he doesn't expect Billy back on the road until February, and by then, he'll have a new album out.
Will his voice be changing while he's cutting that new album this year?
''Who knows?'' Kraski said. ''All I know is he can sing on key regardless of what register he's in.''
Spacek's daughter looks for record label
If you saw the silly teen flick Orange County, you may have seen the next young star of country music.
Schuyler Fisk, Sissy Spacek's daughter, was the cute redhead in Orange County, and Schuyler (pronounced SKY-ler) will be in Nashville next week for Fan Fair. You guessed it Ñ she wants to be a country singer.
Schuyler has powerhouse booking agency Creative Artists Agency behind her to help her look for record deals. Schuyler, accompanied by her mom, will be at Chely Wright's fund-raiser June 11 at the Wildhorse Saloon. And she'll also meet a few record label types while she's in town.
Schuyler's sound is described as a country Jewel, lots of folky sounding stuff that Schuyler has written herself.
Those who hear her sing next week might be surprised to see Sissy singing backing vocals.
Brentwood just got much better looking
You know that 26-year-old supermodel Niki Taylor has been spotted in Nashville several times during the last couple of years.
Niki must've liked what she has seen: This month, she dropped almost $1 million for a home in Brentwood.
Niki's manager, Lou Taylor, has been living in Williamson County for several years, and hence the reason for Niki's visits here.
But I don't have a whole lot of info past that, other than to say that Niki's home is in a gated community around a golf course. Sniff sniff!
Welcome to Middle Tennessee, Niki. And if you need someone to show you around, just call me at 259-É.
