L. A. Report: 'Star Treatment' at Teen Choice Awards

By Elizabeth Snead

Fashion Wire Daily LA August 12, 2002 - So how did Jessica Alba, Shannon Elizabeth, Carmen Electra, Jack Black, Kelly Osbourne and Tom Green kill time backstage in between rehearsals and taping for the Teen Choice Awards (airs Monday, 8 p.m. ET/PT, on Fox)?

By indulging in some "star treatment" at the "talent retreat" organized by Backstage Creations, a company that arranges for awards show stars to select goodies from the hottest new companies -- everything from cell phones to contact lenses, bracelets to belt buckles, skincare to sandals -- all for a good cause, of course.

All the Teen Choice performers and nominees were invited to the Backstage Creations Tiki Lounge rest stop, the brainchild of Karen Wood, who started the company in 2000 to give companies such as Baccarat, Coach, Sprint, Nike and Palm, as well as up-and-coming designers, the chance to introduce products and services to A-list celebs at industry events such as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, People's Choice Awards and Billboard Awards.

So what were the Teen Choice star picks? Electra and Eve couldn't wait to bat their new Girlfriend's Night Out "My Lash" jeweled false eyelashes. Electra also pocketed a few Hello Kitty guitar picks for her boyfriend, Dave Navarro of the Foo Fighters.

Drew Barrymore's ex-husband Tom Green stocked up on Axe, a new fragrance/body deodorant spray just for men. Hey, maybe he's finally cleaning up his act! And Jack Black posed for photogs with Wrigley's Eclipse blue mint breath strips all over his tongue.

Kelly Osbourne stocked up on Neutrogena skin care. Hope they make a powerful pancake makeup remover! Jack Osbourne picked up their new men's shaving line (guess he's hopeful he'll need them soon). Susan Sarandon walked off with a Wilson's leather satchel and her daughter Eva Amurri loved the new black Guess watches with a stone bezel design.

"Traffic" star Erika Christensen stepped into a pair of Steve Madden leather sandals with turquoise stones. JenStone's personalized Swarovski crystal belt buckles, worn by Jack Black on "The Conan O'Brian Show," were a hit with Kelly Osbourne, Alyson Hannigan (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Sarah Michelle Gellar, Gwen Stefani, and Mark McGrath.

Alba and the guys from BB Mak fell in love with the new leather and precious stone bracelets by Johnny and Tawnee. The Mak men even wore theirs on the show. And comedian Tim Allen picked out a Zoppini Italian modular charm bracelet for his daughter. Now that's home improvement.

Finally, the new itsy bitsy Sprint cell phones, activated and ready for dialing (with two months' free service) were put into action by everyone from Alba to the American Idol cast, who used them to pull an E.T.-phone-home.

The phone numbers for all the stars were all specially programmed "private." But here's a tip: if you see the words "Teen Choice" on your caller ID, for gosh sakes, answer the phone! It might be Jessica Alba, Tom Green, or Shannon Elizabeth calling. Hey, you never know!

And the bright side to all this celebrity gluttony? A selection of the gifts received by the Teen Choice stars will be auctioned off on Hollywood Charities.com to raise money for TEENS4ACURE, associated with the National Children's Leukemia Foundation starting August 9th.

Now that's real star treatment.
